A trolley locomotive is a traction device for rail vehicles that uses a traction motor to drive the wheels and, through friction between the wheels and the rail surface, allows the locomotive to move along the rails. It is mainly used for underground and overland transportation over long distances. It is equivalent to the lead electric locomotive in railway transport, which pulls a train consisting of mine cars or cars with people along the rails to complete the transport of coal, manure, materials, equipment and personnel.
